On This Day, April 27: Thanos snapped his fingers while Netflix got spicier

The entertainment industry is a multibillion-dollar monster that must push new content daily to survive. That means even on a seemingly random day, such as April 27, we have something to be celebrated, such as big stars’ birthdays or iconic cinematic events.

With Avengers: Infinity War, the MCU was at its most ambitious

On April 27, 2018, Marvel Studios released its most ambitious movie. Avengers: Infinity War was the culmination of ten years of movies and TV shows carefully planned to give birth to the ultimate crossover. In the early 2000s, if a studio asked people to watch a dozen films to understand a new release, we could bet on the project’s failure. Yet, Infinity War hauled more than two billion dollars at the international box office.

Even before Infinity War, MCU fans were sure Marvel Studios wouldn’t kill the heroes. So, after Thanos (Josh Brolin) won the battle and snapped away half the sentient life in the universe, people expected the deed to be undone by Avengers: Endgame. That doesn’t change the emotional impact of seeing some fan-favorite characters reduced to dust. Infinity War knows it’s telling a lie and still manages to hit the audience as hard as possible. As such, it is not only a great superhero movie. It’s a great movie, period.

Never Have I Ever wished for a spicier teen show on Netflix

Netflix constantly releases new content on its streaming platform, so most of it gets buried inside a choice-paralysis-sized pile of movies and series. However, on April 27, 2020, the streamer took the world by surprise with a funny and witty TV show that dared to explore high school drama while accepting the obvious fact that every teenager is a horny beast. There is nothing like Never Have I Ever out there, as few creative teams would manage to balance a story that’s all about teenagers discovering their sexuality but doesn’t sexualize said teenagers.

With four seasons of 10 episodes each, Never Have I Ever remains one of the most bingeable Netflix shows, boasting solid performances, good pacing, and an honest look at life in high school. The series is also queer-friendly and focused on a layered female protagonist. In short, four years ago, on this very day, Netflix released an original production that suddenly took traction and amassed a legion of followers, ensuring its longevity.

Lizzo just turned 35

Born Melissa Viviane Jefferson on April 27, 1988, Lizzo has become a rap icon in her twenties. The young and talented artist slowly climbed the ladder of fame, one album at a time, while also releasing singles that rocketed her to the top of the Billboard chart. Regardless of what kind of music you enjoy, everyone knows the name Lizzo, which shows how influential the pop icon has become.

2020 was a decisive year for Lizzo, as she received eight nominations at the 62nd Grammy Awards, ahead of every other artist nominated for the prize. She scored three trophies: Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Traditional R&B Performance. Lizzo would one-up herself in 2022 by taking home the Grammy Award for Record of the Year thanks to her album Special. It was the first time a Black woman won this Grammy since 1994, when Whitney Houston was granted the honor.

Lizzo has been involved with some serious allegations of racial and sexual harassment in a case that’s still following the slow pace of justice. When the facts emerge to confirm Lizzo’s guilt or innocence, her April 27 birthday will become even more meaningful. It will either be the date of birth of a revolutionary rapper unjustly attacked or of a singer who used her fame to abuse other people.

‘Demon Slayer’ season 4 episode 2 release date and time confirmed

The much anticipated fourth season of Demon Slayer has finally premiered, and the wait has been worthwhile. The third season, The Swordsmith Village Arc, was released barely a year ago, and it was one for the books.

However, the anime’s fourth season is poised to take the cake! After all, it will cover The Hashira Training Arc. After months of anticipation and a handful of delightful anime releases, the first episode aired on May 12, 2024. So, with everything set in place, here’s everything you need to know about episode 2 of the fourth season of Demon Slayer

When will Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 air?

Episode 2 is scheduled to premiere on Saturday, May 19, 2024, at 2.45 pm Eastern time, or on May 20 at 11.15 am JST, according to official confirmation. Provided there is no unexpected snag in its release timetable, it is planned to premiere every week, just as its predecessors did. As always, you can catch the episode on Hulu and Crunchyroll at the times and dates specified above. It will also be available on Netflix but only for those outside North America.

It is not yet known to the public how many episodes will be released in total. However, it’s anticipated that the fourth season, The Hashira Training Arc will deal with fewer episodes than the previous season.

What to expect from the upcoming episode?

The SwordSmith Village Arc’s climactic events caused Muchiroand Misturi to awaken their Demon Slayer marks, and Nezuko to develop a primary ability to adapt to sunlight. This was no small feat, as it was clear that the Ubuyashiki Family had found a glimmer of hope that they would eventually be able to defeat Muzan. The process that followed ultimately gave rise to The Hashira Training Arc. Thus, to prepare for the decisive battle, all of the remaining Hashira will need to band together and train the upcoming demon slayers as well as themselves.

Episode 2’s official title is “The Pain of the Water Hashira,” and it features a return appearance of Giyu Tomioka. In case you might have forgotten, Giyu is the Water Breath user from season 1 who presumably saved Nezuko, as well as Tanjiro. However, things are not going well for him this time around, as he has chosen not to participate in the training.

In fact, he may even give up the position of Water Hashira to someone else. The episode will feature Tanjiro’s relentless efforts to persuade him to stay, and like with previous Hashiras, it will give us a glimpse into the agonizing past of Giyu Tomioka, including how he came to be a member of the Demon Slayer Corps.

Global intelligence plummets as conspiracy theorists claim that the Aurora Borealis is man made

Despite the ample research that has gone into the Aurora Borealis over the years, there are some very special people who believe that the phenomenon isn’t natural. A conspiracy theory that emerged in the mid-90s has continued to grow, and just like those folks who believe the Earth is flat, it doesn’t matter how many easily accessible resources are available.

Millions of people across the globe were privy to the gorgeous auroras over the weekend. The ethereal pink, purple, and green lights danced across parts of Europe, the Northern U.S., Australia, and New Zealand skies on Friday, May 10 as “extreme” geomagnetic conditions raced through Earth’s magnetic field.

The well-researched phenomenon is caused by coronal mass ejections (CME), comprised of plasma and magnetic materials ejected from the sun through explosions known as solar flares. CMEs create currents in the Earth’s magnetic field according to NASA. Which then send particles to the North and South poles. The chemical reaction between Earth’s oxygen and nitrogen-rich thermosphere creates shimmering auroras that have fascinated humans for centuries.

Conspiracy theorists on social media aren’t so sure about the natural phenomenon. They claim that the lights were caused by the “High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program” or HAARP for short.

Let’s be clear, HAARP is a real program. Its researchers – comprised of students from the University of Alaska, the University of Colorado, the University of Florida, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Cornell University – study the Ionosphere, which resides roughly 50 to 400 miles above the Earth’s surface.

To do so, the students use the Ionospheric Research Instrument, a “high-powered transmitter facility operating in the High-Frequency range,” which can “excite” a limited area of the Ionosphere for scientific study. The research will further our understanding of the effects that the sun’s natural stimulation have on the layers of Earth’s atmosphere.

While the HAARP is in use, its effects can be seen around 300 miles from the facility in Gakona, Alaska. This “airglow” is created with high-frequency radio transmissions, and due to the way the human eye works, it’s easier to see out of the peripheral, where it appears as a “faint red or possibly green patch.” The HAARP was in use during the May 10 auroras, a stint that started 2 days earlier on May 8.

Since the first facility was installed in Alaska several more have been erected. The EISCAT operates outside Tromsø, Norway, and the SIHF can be found outside of Vasilsursk, Russia. While other facilities have operated over the years, only 3 are active.

Theorists assert that the HAARP research is trying to prepare people for the “inevitable” man-made storms that the government will use to cause all sorts of problems. From Solar flares and earthquakes, to “a cascade of electrons that could flip Earth’s magnetic poles,” and even mind control, it seems that HAARP does everything except its intended purpose.

Who knows, maybe it even makes those “Jewish space lasers” that Marjorie Taylor Greene was talking about.
