New Home for the Hit Show

After being unexpectedly canceled by Fox, the popular drama series '9-1-1' has found a new home on ABC. The show, which follows the lives of dedicated first responders, will be returning for its seventh season.

Financial Decision Behind the Move

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision to move '9-1-1' to ABC was primarily a financial one. Fox was paying a whopping $9 million per episode for the show, which was deemed too expensive. Despite being the No. 1 broadcast drama in the adults 18-49 demographic, the high price tag was no longer worth it. However, Fox has renewed the spin-off series '9-1-1: Lone Star' for a fifth season at a lower cost.

What We Know So Far

The seventh season of '9-1-1' is set to premiere on March 14, 2024, as revealed in ABC's official television schedule for 2023-2024. The exact number of episodes for the upcoming season is unknown, but due to strike delays, it's possible that it may be shorter than previous seasons.

Returning Cast Members

The legendary Angela Bassett will be reprising her role as Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash. Also returning are Peter Krause as Fire Department Captain Bobby Nash and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley. However, there will be some changes to the cast, with John Harlan Kim appearing as a guest star and Rockmond Dunbar's character not returning at all.

New Challenges Await

Details about the plot of the seventh season are still under wraps, but fans can expect Athena and Bobby to face new death-defying situations as they continue to save lives and test their heroism.

Chris, the screenwriter and producer, is a graduate of UCLA's Master's program in Screenwriting for Film and Television. His work has appeared on IMDB, Fandor, and SoundonSight.
