Leigh Bardugo, the author of the popular Grishaverse novels, took to Instagram to express her feelings about the shocking cancellation of the Netflix series adaptation of her books. In a heartfelt post, Bardugo revealed that the news has left her heartbroken and deeply disappointed. However, she also expressed her gratitude towards the cast, crew, and fans who have supported her work.

An Uncommon Experience

In her post, Bardugo acknowledged that not all authors have the opportunity to see their work adapted, and many who do end up regretting the experience. She considers herself fortunate to be one of the few who can look at the adaptation of her novels with pride and joy. She thanked the writers, crew, and cast for their talent and kindness, and expressed her gratitude towards the fans who discovered her books through the show.

A Better Grishaverse

Bardugo credited the fans for helping to shape the Grishaverse into a better place. She expressed her appreciation for the tweets, posts, comments, reviews, artwork, fan fiction, tattoos, and cosplay that have contributed to the success of her world. She ended her post by mentioning her plans to take some time for herself before diving into the next chapter of the story.

Cancelled Spin-Off and Behind-the-Scenes

Netflix made the decision to cancel Shadow and Bone after the end of the Hollywood strikes. Prior to its cancellation, a spin-off series based on Bardugo's 2015 novel Six of Crows was in development. The show, created and executive produced by Eric Heisserer, featured a talented cast including Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux, Ben Barnes, and more. The series was produced by 21 Laps Entertainment, with Bardugo and Shawn Levy among the executive producers.
