A Deadly Love Affair

In the history of true crime, Jodi Arias’ case is a quintessential example of the horrifying consequences of adopting a "if I can’t have you, no one can" mentality.

A Brutal Homicide Unveiled

Even the most casual viewers of real crime cases have likely heard of the case against Jodi Arias. It was one of the biggest criminal trial spectacles in the U.S. in the decade of the 2000s. But in case you haven’t — or the details have become blurred in your mind with time — here’s a rundown of the brutal homicide committed by Arias.

A Complicated Relationship

In 2004, Jodi Arias moved to California with her boyfriend at the time, Daryl, and Travis Alexander was working for Pre-paid Legal Services, a multi-level marketing company. Jodi became employed as a saleswoman for that same company. At some point during his career, Travis moved to Mesa, Arizona, home to a large faith community of Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS, known colloquially as Mormons), of which he was a member.

A Fatal Attraction

Jodi and Travis met in Las Vegas and instantly had a connection. Despite Jodi still being involved with another man, they began a long-distance relationship. Jodi even converted to Travis' faith in an effort to make things work. However, their relationship was filled with tension and jealousy.

The Depths of Obsession

Jodi's obsession with Travis became evident as she continued to see him even after their breakup. She would sneak into his house and vandalize his belongings. Travis struggled to push her away, but eventually reached his breaking point.

A Cold-Blooded Murder

In June 2008, Jodi carried out a brutal attack on Travis. Stabbing him over 25 times, shooting him in the head, and slitting his throat, she left no room for escape. Travis' body was discovered days later, and Jodi quickly became a prime suspect.

A Web of Lies and Evidence

Jodi went to great lengths to cover up her crime, but crucial mistakes led to her downfall. From DNA evidence to recovered photos from a washed camera, the evidence against Jodi was overwhelming.

The Trial and Sentencing

Jodi's story changed multiple times, from denying involvement to claiming self-defense. However, she was ultimately found guilty of first-degree murder. Despite evading the death penalty, Jodi remains behind bars with no possibility of parole.
