Sandra Tabet’s Debut Film “Rabies” Explores Beirut’s Horrific Reality
A Different Kind of Horror Lens
Lebanese director Sandra Tabet is set to bring a unique perspective to the horror genre with her debut film "Rabies." Instead of focusing on supernatural monsters, Tabet's film delves into the bleak reality of post-war Beirut. The project, currently in development at Atlas Workshops, promises to be a haunting exploration of a city ravaged by conflict.
The Story of "Rabies"
"Rabies" follows the journey of Julia, a 60-year-old history teacher, as she desperately searches for a cure for her 30-year-old son, Ghassan. After being bitten by a rabid dog, Ghassan slowly transforms into a violent monster. Tabet's film will take viewers on a terrifying ride through the horrors of both physical and psychological transformation.
An Unexpected Horror
When Tabet initially started working on "Rabies," she didn't see it as a horror movie. However, as she explored her own feelings of being trapped in a city she loved, the film naturally evolved into a chilling tale. Tabet's personal experiences in Beirut, which was plagued by garbage and stray dogs during and after the Civil War, served as the inspiration for the horror elements in the film. Through the genre, Tabet is able to address the public's fears and anxieties about these issues.
A Unique Collaboration
"Rabies" is a co-production between DB Studios in Lebanon and Haut les Mains Productions in France. The project has attracted the support of notable partners such as DFI, Red Sea Film Festival, and Région Nouvelle Aquitaine. With a team of talented individuals behind it, "Rabies" is sure to be a standout film in the horror genre.
Release Date Unknown
Unfortunately, there is no release date set for "Rabies" at this time. Fans of the horror genre will have to wait patiently for Tabet's chilling debut to hit the big screen. Stay tuned for updates on this highly anticipated film.
