The Kohberger Family

Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of brutally murdering four University of Idaho students, comes from a seemingly ordinary family in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania. Born in 1994, Bryan is the youngest child and only son of Maryann and Michael Kohberger. His parents, who had retired before his arrest, were well-liked in their community.

A "Loner" with Social Issues

Although Bryan was described as a "loner" with social issues during his teenage years, his parents have been described as "kind people" by those who know them. They both worked for the local school district—Michael in building maintenance and Maryann with special needs students.

Connection to Another Death Investigation

After Bryan's arrest, his parents were subpoenaed to provide grand jury testimony in Pennsylvania regarding a woman found dead near their home. However, the investigation concluded that Bryan was not involved in that case.

DNA Evidence Links Bryan to the Crime

DNA evidence played a crucial role in identifying Bryan as a suspect in the University of Idaho murders. DNA recovered from a knife sheath found at the crime scene was compared to DNA from Bryan's father, Michael Kohberger. The results showed that Michael was almost certainly the biological father of the person whose DNA was found at the scene.

The Alleged Murders

In November 2022, Bryan Kohberger allegedly killed four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—in their off-campus home. At the time, Bryan was a criminology student at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, just across the Idaho border. During his court appearance, Bryan remained silent, and the judge entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
